Roadtrip Diary: Alabama to Ohio, and back to California
Posted by James & Myke Savage, on Jan 6, 2025.
After wrapping up a fun Christmas with Myke’s family in Alabama, we got on the road for a “short” trip up to Ohio. This could have been a one day affair, but we decided to pad it out and see a few more friends, making Milford, OH our destination for the night. We somehow managed to wake up and leave on time (09:30), and headed to our first stop of a Zaxby’s in Georgia, to meet up with Myke’s friend Justin. We initially wanted to check out this new chicken finger place named Guthrie’s but when we got there, that location was drive-through only and it was pretty cold. Fortunately Zaxby’s was just right across the street. Lunch was sadly not near any chargers, so afterwards we drove a quick 45 minutes to a charging stop.
Roadtrip Diary: California to Alabama

We’ve enjoyed spending our last four Christmases in Tahoe, often getting snowed in for the week, but decided that this year it was time to see both our families instead. Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be as simple as in years past, because all of the airlines ended their emotional support animal programs during COVID (which is how Chelsea had been able to join us before). With our friends’ holiday plans, we also wouldn’t be able to find someone to watch her.
Sunset on the lake

Last weekend we went boating a little later than usual, and were treated to a lovely golden hour on the water. There’s not much more to say than that, but I got some nice shots from the day and knew I wanted to share them (in all their 4K HDR glory). Enjoy!
Camping at Emerald Bay Boat Camp
Posted by James Savage, on Aug 17, 2024.
Where’s the year gone? It feels like I was just writing about our first camping trip, and yet somehow we just got back from our last of the year! That said, we went out in style, and returned to Myke’s favorite campground: Boat Camp. For campers, this campground is only accessible by boat, and instead of a parking spot each site comes with its own numbered buoy in Emerald Bay. This is now our third year camping here, and it’s easily one of the nicest campgrounds we’ve visited. Actually hauling everything out does take quite a while, and requires lots of small trips: from the house to the truck, from the truck to the boat, from the boat to the campsite, and of course then Myke has to go tie up the boat and swim back to shore.
Camping at Fremont Peak State Park
Posted by James Savage, on May 5, 2024.
For our first camping trip of the year, we kicked things off by going to Fremont Peak State Park over Earth Day weekend. This was a new spot for us, and one not too far from home, while still nicely out of the way. Joining us was a small group, with just Nicole camping overnight, while some other friends stop by for lunch. Plenty of clear skies meant great views from the peak, although nighttime temperatures were a little uncomfortable (around 45°F). Overall, the trip was a little underwhelming. I don’t think we found the right hiking trails for a great view, though the view from the campsite itself was still very good.
Outings in Tahoe and Canada

With winter half over, and zero posts in 2023, I figured maybe it would be easier to write about the year as it happens, rather than give myself huge end-of-the-year projects. So here’s a little about what we’ve been up to, and some photos from the year so far.
2022 Holiday Review

Somehow another year is almost over, and while it’s a common refrain we don’t know where the time went. A lot went on for us this year, but we thought we’d have had some time to write about more things before it was over.

Our First Anniversary
Posted by James & Myke Savage, on Sep 4, 2021.
Here we are, now over one year into our relationship together, and still happily married. In fact we just had the pleasure of celebrating our marriage with all the people we couldn’t see last year, and in Tahoe. The weekend was everything we could have hoped for. Sunny, warm, and a great chance for us to reconnect with the friends and family we hadn’t seen in over a year. It was so amazing and touching to get to see all of our friends and family who made the trip. Thank you for sharing our special day with us!

We’re excited to share our official wedding photos and video with everyone. A big thanks to Davey & Meg Hibler. Despite being Tahoe locals, they drove down to San Jose to shoot our backyard wedding and run the livestream for everyone.
We Tied the Knot!

We’re excited to welcome you to our website as husbands! Planning a wedding during a pandemic was a challenge, to put it lightly, and we’re so appreciative of all the support and understanding everyone showed us. When we set out, the first thing our wedding planner asked us was the #1 thing that we wanted out of our wedding, the one thing we couldn’t live without. Without hesitation we both answered “getting married,” and while it may not have been what we had originally dreamed nestled on the beach of Tahoe between the mountains, we still walked down the aisle together. Chelsea followed us shortly after with our rings and then laid down at our feet as we exchanged our vows.
